Citaro II van de RET

De Mercedes-Benz Citaro (ook bekend als O530) is de opvolger van de Mercedes-Benz O405. Net als zijn voorganger is de bus succesvol en wordt de bus wereldwijd verkocht. De bus werd in 1997 geïntroduceerd en heeft altijd een lage vloer. Er bestaat sinds 2000 ook een gelede uitvoering. Naast de gelede variant (Citaro G) is er ook een vijftien meter lange variant (Citaro L) en een lange gelede bus (Citaro GL of CapaCity). Ook bestaan er varianten voor het streekvervoer, deze krijgen een Ü (van het Duitse Überlandverkehr) in de naam. In 2005 werd de tweede generatie gepresenteerd (Citaro II), evenals de Citaro LE (Low Entry). Dit is een bus met alleen lage vloer tussen de in- en uitstapdeur en daarachter een hoge vloer. Hiervan bestaat ook een dertien meter lange variant (Citaro LE MÜ).

Een speciaal project is het onder meer door de EU gefinancierde project waarbij er in verschillende steden Citaro's op waterstof rijden / reden. Amsterdam was één van de deelnemende steden, maar het project is hier inmiddels ten einde.
