De VDL Citea is een type autobus van de Nederlandse fabrikant VDL Bus & Coach.

Algemeen

De Citea werd gepresenteerd als stadsbus met een volledig verlaagde vloer. Later kwam er ook een low entry stadsbus (lage instap, hoog achtergedeelte).[1]

De eerste grote order Citea-bussen (518 bussen) is geleverd aan de vervoerautoriteit in Dubai.[2]

In september 2010 maakte VDL bekend de naam Citea voor alle openbaar vervoer bussen te gaan gebruiken. De naam Ambassador is per oktober 2011 ingelijfd bij de Citea groep. De 12 meter versie gaat verder als Citea LLE-120. De 10,6 meter versie wordt niet meer gemaakt.

De Citea bestaat uit de volgende reeksen:

  • Citea MLE (Midi Low Entry) (dit is een een midibus op basis van de Wright Streetlite met lengtes van 8,8, 9,5, 10,2 en 10,8 meter. Wright bouwt en levert de versies met het stuur rechts en VDL de versies met het stuur links)
  • Citea SLE (Standard Low Entry) (lage vloer tot voorbij uitstapdeur, tweeassig)
  • Citea SLF (Standard Low Floor) (volledig lage vloer)
  • Citea SLFA (Standard Low Floor Articulated) (volledig lage vloer, geleed)
  • Citea XLE (eXtra Low Entry) (lage vloer tot voorbij de uitstapdeur, drieassig)
  • Citea LLE (Light Low Entry) (opvolger van de Ambassador, lage vloer tot voorbij uitstapdeur)
  • Citea Hybride
  • Citea Electric

De derde generatie Citea werd in 2021 geïntroduceerd en bestaat uit de LE- en LF-varianten.

Motoren van de Hybrid en Electric worden geleverd volgens de specificatie van de inzet.

Uitgezonderd de SLF-120 en SLF-120 Hybrid, MLE-88 en MLE-95 zijn alle bussen te bestellen met Voith Diwa.6 of ZF Ecolife versnellingsbak. De SLF-120 en SLF-120 Hybrid is alleen te verkrijgen met een ZF AVE 130 aandrijfmechanisme; De MLE-88 en MLE-95 is alleen te verkrijgen met de Voith Diwa.6

Op basis van het onderstel van de SLF-120 wordt een dubbeldeks onderstel ontwikkeld voor de Britse markt van dubbeldekkers; dit onderstel zal alleen te leveren zijn met de 310 PK sterke DAF motor. De ontwikkeling stopgezet en heeft VDL zich volledig gericht op de mede-ontwikkeling van de Hybride Wright Eclipse 2 integral. Een integrale hybride. Hierbij worden componenten en ervaringen gebruikt van de eigen hybride Citea's.
