Een '''nachtbus''' is een bus die vrijwel alleen in de nachtelijke uren rijdt. Vaak staat het nachtvervoer los van het vervoer overdag. Zo zijn de routes vaak anders, geldt er vrijwel altijd bij veel nachtlijnen een ander tariefsysteem en is de studentenkaart niet altijd geldig. Meestal is de dienst soms beperkt tot slechts enkele dagen per week , vaak alleen op dagen dat veel mensen uit gaan of alleen bij speciale gelegenheden.

Nachtdiensten worden vaak in de grotere steden aangeboden en de diensten dragen soms een kenmerkende naam zoals "Niteliner" <small>([[Connexxion]] en dochters)</small>, "NachtbuzznightGo" <small>([[HTMbuzzKeolis Nederland]] Den HaagAlmere)</small> of "BOB-bus" <small>([[RET]] Rotterdam)</small>.
